Since 2008, MARIPOSA PICTURES has been an ongoing experiment in community based film making. It started with our little family making movies together in the cotton fields behind our house. This was our way of having fun and being playful, and celebrating the seemingly "little" moments. Regardless of your age, we feel like that sense of child-like wonder is an essential part of the human experience. And this is a value we always embrace when making films together with friends and family.
We don't have the resources to hire professional actors, costume designers, or soundtrack composers. So we all just pitch in and offer what we can to make movies that have a sort of lo-fi charm and hidden beauty.
Each project is a collaborative experience that pairs the wild imagination of children with a creative mentor to help guide the process. It gives young people a glimpse of their creative potential. And it inspires all of us to maintain that child-like wonder in everything we do.
